What is Urban Dance Lab?

Urban Dance Lab explores performing dynamics with choreography inspired by contemporary, urban, and world music.

Based on a highly defined warmup, the UDL technique creates more space in the body through an emphasis on alignment that frees, heals, and strengthens the body.

Created by Master Teacher, Michele Kadison, Urban Dance Lab challenges dancers to reach their maximum potential.

The FLOW Workshop

On Sunday, July 8th 2012.... Enter…

The Flow

A delicious night of movement
Designed by Master Teacher, Michele Kadison
all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities welcome ~ no dance training necessary

The Flow takes you on an inspirational and improvisational voyage with movement as your vehicle.  We begin by bringing awareness to how the body feels in the present, what it can do, and what its perceived restrictions might be.  We will then explore a series of gentle exercises that release your natural, innate flow: the flow of oxygen throughout your cells, the flow of blood within your spinal column, the flow that releases tension and brings you health. Using gentle rhythmic motion, we release old tensions and find space in the body to increase flexibility, core strength, and alignment. Once we are warmed and ready, we take our exploration even further.   Guided by music and voice, you will experience your body moving through space in a way that is liberating, exhilarating, joyous, fun…and uniquely your own.

Date:                        Sunday, July
Time:                        6:30 – 9:00 pm
Location:                 NOMAC: North Miami Arts Collective – 845 NE 125th Street, North Miami
Admission:              $25 for this magical evening of meditative movement and music
Registration:            Email NorthMiamiArts@gmail.com to register.  You will be sent a link to pre-pay.
Space is limited to 20 participants

With constant growth and research, I am constantly discovering the deeper places in the body that are keys to a healthful technique that avoids injury and allows the dancer to continue without restriction. There are still many old teaching modalities around that do not rid the body of tension, but rather add to it. The idea behind my work is to create space in the body that releases trapped energy, allowing the body to move with greater freedom and expression.

Teaching Teachers How to Teach

Photo: student and star performer Sandra Mirley

In addition to my regular advanced/professional classes and coaching, I am now available for workshops in:

"Teaching Teachers How to Teach," is designed for those pursuing a Jazz teaching career where often bravura movement takes precedent over developing the body from the inside out.  Here the focus is on process rather than immediate results.

This is a laboratory-style class with investigation into using the spiral, secondary muscles, and oppositional energies to create more space and freedom in the body and movement in general.
